Santa Clara Art & Wine Festival 2013

For the 7th year in a row, Indigenous was asked to perform at this fabulous Art & Wine Festival on the lovely Meadow Stage at Central Park in beautiful Santa Clara, California. On Saturday, September 14, at 11:00 AM Bahira, Fara'Asha and Aniq danced a fun fusion Mytho-poetic Bellydance set honoring the upcoming Halloween season. The troupe did their own interpretations of several chiller, thriller theme songs, some spooky numbers and some just plain fun. Here are photos by David Martin.

To the Theme from "One Missed Call," the Halloween puppet master (Bahira) teaches the dolls how to dance by connecting them with silver veil, then sets them free to dance on their own!

Using their swords blades to cut the puppet strings, the troupe dances to the Theme music from "Saw"....

...And a Gothic tribal favorite "I Cash Radii":

A floaty little ghost number to the Friday 13th music follows.....

...And a mystical Indian piece called "Cafe Uzma":

The finale was the ever-popular Steve Wonder's Arabesque flavored rendition of "Superstition"

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

October 28, 2012

Indigenous performed with A Bellydance Collective in the parade and performance celebration of Dia de los Muertos in downtown San Jose. The Collective drummed and zilled while marching 4 blocks from Cesar Chavez Park to the SJSU Library were community activities included vendors, food and local dance performances, including Indigenous. After the performance, we drummed our way to the Flames Restaurant to entertain the patrons briefly and have a bite to eat.

Dia de los Muertos

2012 Santa Clara Art & Wine

On Saturday, September 15, 2012, Indigenous entertained the local audience on the Meadow Stage for the 6th year in a row. Indigenous performed a Latin-inspired set of dances complete with senoritas, fans and even a bullfight on stage. Here are some photos from the performance thanks to David Martin:

Indigenous opened with a sassy fan dance followed by a cane duet by Fara'Asha and Aniq

Bahira took the stage as Toreadora and danced with her red cape....

....until the bulls entered the ring!

Fara'Asha and Aniq did a flirty Cha Cha duet..

...followed by a lively troupe zill dance!

The Senoritas promenade showing off their stuff...

...and then enter with a sensual sword dance...

...featuring balance...

...and passion!

The set ended with Ritmo Caliete: Hot Rhythm, a very upbeat skirtwork dance!

Private Party "Mediterranean Nights" Sunnyvale, California

April 28, 2012 - For the 6th year in a row, Indigenous has been asked to be the featured entertainment for the very popular auctioned dinner "Mediterranean Nights" offer by the Washington Open Elementary School as part of the school's fundraising efforts. This dinner is served in the winner's home with up to ten people as guests. The hosts' home is turned into a seraglio with draperies, lanterns, cushions, a low table for sumptuous dining and of course, a 30 minute show by Indigenous.
